Students will Enjoy Technology Week at School December 4-8! πŸ˜ƒ

"Hour of Code" is right around the corner!  "Computer Science Education Week" (December 4-8) is almost here.  All students in grades K-5 will be doing Coding Activities when they come to technology class with Ms. Taylor during Technology Week. Mrs. Campbell will be doing coding in STEM Lab, and Mrs. O’Connor will have some special activities in the Learning Commons!  Look for your student's classroom to celebrate “Computer Science Education Week” by doing some coding activities in their classrooms as well.

You can even participate in Coding at Home!  Head to hourofcode.com/us/learn for activities you and your student can enjoy (during Thanksgiving Break, too, right?)...including activities for Pre-Readers, grades 2-5, and up!  Take on a "challenge" using the tools at Ms. Taylor's Technology Lab blog HERE

Also, CONGRATS to Ms. Taylor, our Foundation-funded Technology Lab Instructor, who was selected again this year as a Code.Org committee member!  "Thursday evening as I was traveling to Ohio, I finished my last review committee conference call (technology is amazing!) to finalize the activities that code.org will put on their website to use for the Hour of Code. There are great new offerings this year, activities for people new to coding, as well as new challenges for more experienced coders. It’s going to be a great week!"  Thank you Ms. Taylor--Mountain View is proud of you!! πŸ˜ƒ

 EVERYDAY HEROES: THE POWER OF
One child… One hero… One moment in time… One lasting impression!

East Cobb County Council (ECCC) of PTAs 2017-2018 Presents:
Honoring Our Heroes Program

Honoring Our Heroes is a student writing program designed for students to write about their real-life heroes and role models.

The person you write about should display one or more of the following characteristics:  generosity, trust, persistence, dedication, leadership, creativity, caring, bravery, imagination, service, gentleness, courage, or compassion.

We want you to redefine media-hyped and cartoon heroes such as professional athletes, movie stars, and rock musicians and instead recognize someone who has made a more personal impact on your life such as a family member, doctor, public safety officer, soldier, or teacher.

What a great opportunity to honor someone who may not even know what a difference they are making in your life!

Click HERE to download and print the entry form. Entries are due to the MVES PTA by Wednesday, January 17, 2018.  Please email Mary Pearl Britto at heroes@mountainviewpta.org with any questions.

Special Request from Our Principal, Dr. Garriss:

Dear Families,
We would greatly appreciate it if you would please complete the Georgia Parent Survey that factors into our School Climate Rating Score and College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). Below is information and the link to the survey. Please fee free to complete it at home. Many thanks to you and your support for our incredibly wonderful new school!

Georgia Parent Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as paret of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.

Georgia Parent Survey: http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents

Although there is no mandatory participation rate for the Georgia Parent Survey, schools that haveno participation in the survey will receive  0.0 score. Schools with less than 15 parent surveys will be designated as Low Participation (LP) and the results will not be calculated. Either way, no parent or low parent participation will negatively impact a school's School Climate Star Rating.

Kind regards,
Renee I. Garriss, Ed.D.
Principal
